Funding will be provided for innovation projects in agriculture that implement the transfer of knowledge and networking between agricultural practice, consultancy, and science. The concept of innovation is broadly defined: "Development, trials, testing of new processes, products, technologies, methods, and services". The innovation project is specific and has high practical relevance. The innovation process is open-minded.

The characteristics of EIP projects are the active role of farmers and the strong practical relevance of the projects. The innovation projects in Schleswig-Holstein have received funding totalling €10 million since mid-2015, under the second pillar of farm support.

They develop innovations, for example, in the areas of animal welfare, fertilizer management, grazing, and digitization and automation in vegetable production.

In June 2018, projects from the second call started to be implemented in Schleswig-Holstein.
