Project description
Many of today's main tree species are coming under increasing pressure due to climate change. While urban trees often used to live for 80 years or more in the past, it will be more difficult to preserve them for several decades in the future.
In order to identify climate-resilient tree species for northern Germany, species from regions that already have a comparable climate are being analysed. The first sightings have been taking place at four locations in Germany for several years - but so far only under optimal horticultural conditions.
The aim of the project was to test promising tree species, which had already proven themselves under ideal conditions in experimental facilities, at real urban locations. The aim was to test their practical suitability and derive reliable, transferable findings for Germany and neighbouring countries.
Despite different site conditions, the trees showed good to very good development during the project period. Detailed information can be found in the practice sheet and the final report.
