Project description
The aim of the project is to increase the efficiency of pastoral farms in Schleswig-Holstein through progress in pasture management. For this purpose, two innovations from Ireland (Rising Plate Meter, "Grasshopper" model, and "PastureBaseIreland" Decision Support System) are to be transferred to (North) German conditions with the support of Irish colleagues.
The project will translate a basic version that is already working in the project start-up year and adapt it to regional conditions, such as grain density factor and the German forage quality assessment system.
The instrument is being tested on operating farms with different grazing systems as a yield recording system and management tool, and further developed for Schleswig-Holstein conditions. The focus of the project is the creation, calibration, validation, release, and application of a decision support system that is required for effective pasture management but has not yet been available in Germany. In addition, the project is developing a pasture app as a tool for farmers to share and compare their results with other users.
