Project description

Agriculture has changed noticeably in recent years. The amount of available farmland is decreasing, while social pressure on the sector is constantly growing. In this context, the resource of soil in particular is increasingly coming into focus - it is receiving more and more attention, importance and appreciation. In the past, the focus of agricultural activities was often on maximising yields. However, in order to ensure high yields in the future, sustainable use of natural resources, especially soil, is essential. In addition, new approaches are needed to fulfil social responsibility and harmonise agriculture, nature conservation and sustainability.

The aim of the project was to create a further education programme - ‘Practical Soil Science’ - for farmers, which is conveniently delivered to their homes in the form of a subscription. The soil boxes were to be used to provide farm managers with specific instructions on how to assess soil properties, etc.

The result of the project work was the development of eight different boxes containing topics relating to soil science, from the basics to soil fertility. Each box is equipped with a magazine, a practical tool, instructions and worksheets for recording the results.

You will find a detailed project description and the various possible applications of the floor boxes in the final report and in the practice sheet. The practical suitability is also discussed in more detail here.

A subscription to the floor box can be ordered via the homepage www.mein-boden.com.
