Project description

Old, regionally typical domestic animal breeds such as the red and coloured dual-purpose cattle, the German white-headed meat sheep, the German white goat, the Angler saddle pig, the Angler cattle and the Schleswiger Kaltblut are highly endangered or even threatened with extinction. These breeds represent an important part of the genetic diversity and biodiversity of our farm animals.
The aim of the project was to further develop the inbreeding management and breeding progress of the above-mentioned breeds using modern, genome-based methods. The development of a mating tool for practitioners should contribute to increasing the herdbook population.
The results of the data collection on the individual animal species and breeds as well as recommendations for practitioners can be found in the final report and in the practice sheet.
