Project description

The health of the horse is directly related to their well-being and takes a significant influence on the profitability of farms keeping and breeding horses. Therefore, the interest of breeders in comprehensive information on how the health characteristics of horses can be improved has grown over the years.

In addition, used by the economic developments and structural changes in recent years a process of restructuring in the Schleswig-Holstein horse breed has started. Through these developments, there is an increased need for information and education of breeders around the topics horse breeding and husbandry, particularly with regard to the health of the horses.

Against this background, stakeholders of the equine sector (farmers and horse breeders, consultants, veterinarians, researchers) in Schleswig-Holstein built the OG "equine health".

The project aims to strengthen equine health as well as the husbandry, use and breeding of horses in Schleswig-Holstein. A new form of use of comprehensive health data and the provision of information to horse owners should be developed and established in the project.
