Development of an innovative, technology-based analysis tool to facilitate animal-friendly milking
Project description
Milking has a direct influence on the well-being of the cows as well as on their milk yield and udder health. It is therefore crucial to regularly check the function, settings and equipment of the milking system and adjust them if necessary.
The aim of the project was to record meaningful indicators for assessing the milking system and the milking process. On this basis, weak points were to be identified and targeted recommendations for action derived. The development of an electronic analysis tool should provide targeted support for milking counselling in the future, make the milking process more efficient and improve animal welfare in the long term.
One of the key findings of the project is that the main causes of problems in milking often lie in human behaviour. Technical settings only play a role downstream. Structural conditions or the herd itself, on the other hand, are rarely the cause of disruptions in the milking process.
