Nutrient Management and Yield Increase in Ecological Cash Cropping ✔
Sustainable yield increase in ecological cash cropping as a result of individually optimized catch cropping
Project description
In organic farming, maintaining and improving soil fertility are essential prerequisites for sustainable and long-term farming. This includes both the promotion of soil life and the targeted supply of nutrients. In view of the increasing specialisation of organic farms, new strategies tailored to individual farms must be developed to increase soil fertility.
The aim of the project was to evaluate the potential of different catch crops and cultivation strategies with regard to maintaining and increasing soil fertility. The interactions with different site conditions and the yield performance of the subsequent crops were analysed on practical farms and in exact trials.
Based on the results obtained, statements can be made on the advantages and disadvantages of different catch crop cultivation strategies. The cultivation of catch crops can, for example, make a significant contribution to avoiding nutrient leaching.
A detailed project description and the results can be found in the following final report and in the practice sheet.
